Over a month ago, we noticed that Twitter added analytics on its site to measure user performance. Then the report threats and abuse feature was included, which was good news for tweeps who constantly got embarrassed by trolls and haters. Later, it took out the discover tab and allowed us send direct messages to anyone.
The truth behind all of these changes being made is that twitter is running at a major loss. Twitter has 300 million users, and yet recorded a net loss of $162 million for the first three months of 2015. Hard to believe yeah? It is a sad truth. The good part is Twitter refuses to accept defeat and is working hard on making profit from the modern day social newspaper in which every user is a contributor.
Twitter is making moves to bring in more revenue by adding features to attract people, advertisers, and businesses with the share of wallet. Recently, it has bought over TellApart, a marketing technology company that worked with Facebook’s ad department. That isn’t all. Using its products – Vine and Periscope – Twitter is making more provisions for video on its platform, rather than allowing redirections to other big shot video sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.
Clearly, ads is where the money lies for most social media platforms. It is also in a partnership with Google’s DoubleClick, which provides more top notch performance metrics for marketers. This leaves us with the question – will Google attempt to buy Twitter?
Never say never.
