Peephole Into Sewa’s World: Campaign Management and Content Creation for NET Honours, the Annual Entertainment Awards Show

Peephole into Sewa-s World

What was the brief like?

Data gathering and content creation were two major aspects of putting together the NET Honours People’s Choice Awards 2021. With that in mind, I was required to join the team to create content around the awards show as well as work with the creative designers and video creators to produce assets for the show. These pieces of content were meant to be used across our various social media platforms and websites so they had to be interesting enough to get a high engagement rate.

Let’s talk about the role you played during the execution of the brief.

For this brief, I worked as the campaign coordinator.

Can you share some of the results or outcomes from this campaign/project?

Although communicating with all members of the team wasn’t so easy since we were working remotely, it was impressive to see that we exceeded our deliverables at the end of the campaign. We had created over 70 stories, artworks, and videos to be used on social media and the website.

As soon as Dara and I got a hang of the language and tone to be used for this project, we were on autopilot. Along the line, we discovered that having voting categories would improve audience engagement but it was already too late to explore that option. In addition, K-Pop music, most influential person, and best DJ were some interesting awards categories we should have included.

Winners and nominees responded positively to the awards show. We got several emails, mentions, social media shares, and reposts. The reaction and reception by the subjects were quite overwhelming. All of this contributed to placing NET Honours Awards on the map as one of the prestigious industry awards shows.

Have you got any key lessons from this campaign/project that is worth sharing?

Communication and teamwork will make almost any project a walk in the park.

What’s next for you over the next three months?

I recently moved from the editorial team to Public Relations and Comms. In the next couple of months, I will be soaking in all the knowledge I can get like a sponge. Thankfully, Njideka is a benevolent teacher and leader.

While working on this campaign/project did you ever get to a point where you questioned if this career path was for you? If you did, can you share what made you feel this way and your motivation to keep going?

This project only made me realise that I wanted to do more project management which isn’t the focal point of the editorial team. In all honesty, I enjoyed the reporting aspect of the project more than the content writing. The entire experience was further evidence that I loved to do other things aside from writing.

Was there any feedback from the client or your boss(es) that you are going to be holding on to for a while?

Prepare your reports faster!

Did you acquire any new skills as a result of this task?

This has to be data gathering. I also got to brush up on my social media management skills.

If you had a choice, what’s that one task you never look forward to doing when handling a project/campaign of this nature?

Writing numerous copies.

My moods during the campaign:

At the beginning 🤯
Midway               😰
At the end           😎
