Don’t Believe the Hype. There Will Be No X-Rated Version of Instagram.

For ladies, and fellas, who love posting ‘thirst-traps’ on social media and getting members of the opposite sex drooling with desire, it just might be a little longer before you can freely and fully ‘show yourselves’ (literally) without incurring the wrath of Instagram.

We know that user accounts get randomly shut down and posts deleted every now and then, for violating IG’s rules on nudity (which many are still debating). Even the world’s favourite bad girl, Rihanna, wasn’t spared along with other celebs like Chelsea Handler.

This desire of many users to post any and everything on IG has led to the popularity of hashtags such as #freethenipple, promoting the acceptability of public display of a woman’s nipples.

Their argument – banning the female nipple while allowing that of men is sexism.

Instagram CEO, Kevin Systrom, says there have been “talks” about building an R-rated platform. He however admitted that the biggest problem would be figuring out how to judge what should be considered “R-rated” and what is not, and who to make such judgments.

A spokesperson for IG later said the Facebook-owned platform never had plans to build a separate version that caters to NSFW (Not Safe For Work) materials and are not even considering building one in the near future.

Oops!

Heartbreak for millions of #freethenipple activists.
