Why You Can No Longer Discover Twitter’s Discover Tab

This morning I began my daily ritual of checking Twitter for the world’s most discussed topics. I searched hard for the discover tab, but it wasn’t there. For a moment, I thought I was losing my mind. After a quick view of ‘trends’, that was my next major zone. Where did my baby go?

Some minutes later, I came across a tweet that said Twitter’s Discover was gone! I couldn’t believe my eyes! To make the situation worse, Twitter’s Discover was called the most pointless feature! It was so heart breaking.

Why Twitter? How could Twitter do this? We loved that tab.

Anyway, Twitter is replacing Discover (not sure if it will be in the exact position as the former Discover) with a While You Were Away page. The page will be rolling out tweets that have incurred high amounts of engagement (it had better not be the ones from parody accounts).

Independent says that the new option gives more context on trending topics, explaining why certain issues are being tweeted about, how many tweets have been sent about them, and when they began to trend. I really can’t wait to see what the page will look like.

Sudden changes freak frequent users out. I’m hoping the new features will leave me with butterflies inside. I have to admit though, the new Twitter Analytics was quite an impressive one.
