The Facebook Friends Symbol Has Been Changed For Feminist Reasons

You (most likely) did not notice that the male and female silhouettes that symbolize your Facebook Friends have undergone a change, but this time for a ‘weirder’ reason – feminism, or rather gender equality.
The change, which was implemented by Caitlin Winner, a design manager at Facebook, was made because the female symbol was placed as a shadow of the male symbol.
Also, the group symbol, which originally had the woman at the right side with a man beside and in front of her, now has the female symbol in front of the men with a considerable amount of space between each figure.

Caitlin Winner (what a coincidence right?) claims she took it upon herself to fix the misrepresentation, without any ill intentions at heart.
Unknown to most of us, this symbolic change occurred six months ago. We guess Facebook wanted to keep it on the low. They probably didn’t want to cause any uproar or be linked to any gender changing celebrity.
