Marvel Is Winning, You Can’t Tell Us Nothing

Written by Moyosore Sonuga

In the battle of animated super-hero movies, Marvel is winning, not only from an entertainment perspective, but from a marketing perspective as well.

Now that we’ve gotten that fact out of the way, let’s dissect why.

The first point is…

Adoption of relatable comics
After the excitement of DC‘s ‘Batman & Robin’ in 1997, superhero films became bland and boring. Until less than a year later, Marvel comic released ‘Blade’. Dark, lean, sexy and completely unexpected, Blade’s suave and bad boy aesthetics took us the f*ck out. Unlike DC‘s unexciting and uninteresting characters. ?

Risk taking ability
Many people had labelled ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ as the studio’s riskiest release so far, and there seemed to be plenty of evidence to support this skepticism. For starters, they bankrolled a $170 million blockbuster based on a set of characters that the last time they teamed up was in 2008 and the public’s response to them was unknown – unlike the big names in the industry whose waves they could have ridden on. DC works with a normal budget they never try to be extra, forgetting that being extra has its own flavor.

Perfect timing
The last decade has been a boom for superhero films and Marvel made the right moves at the right time. However, DC is trying to catch up by rushing through the production for ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ , it looked painfully rushed and a lot of unnecessary elements were crammed into that single movie.
