In August 2015, Facebook allowed only celebrities with verified accounts like Dwayne The Rock Johnson to use its new live-streaming feature.
Thankfully, Facebook has modified the live streaming service and given access to all its users. This is surely a move to compete with the big cats of live streaming – Periscope and Meerkat.
Here is what you should know about Facebook’s live stream service:
- While broadcasts on Periscope and Meerkat are only live for 24 hours before being automatically deleted, Facebook live videos can be saved and replayed anytime in the future.
- Facebook’s live videos are only visible to your family and friends unlike Periscope and Meerkat that show your videos to people all over the world.
- Asides viewing publicly shared broadcasts by verified celebs, you can subscribe and follow live videos of those you follow.

Some iPhone users in the United States have been able to access the feature for now.
Live streaming is just one of the many cards up Facebook’s sleeves. In the near future, there will be an introduction of Collages, a feature similar to that of Google’s Story on Google Photos. The feature will automatically group photos and videos taken together in an album.

People have begun publishing more videos on Facebook than on YouTube because Facebook isn’t taking copyright policies as serious as its competition and we all know why.
It is safe to say that Facebook may be awarded the most competitive global company of the year, well if there was ever an award like that.
