What does creativity mean to you? What do you draw inspiration from?
This week, we’re discussing creativity. We asked a few of our team members what it means to them and what inspires it. Here’s what they had to say.
What inspires your creativity?
“For me, it’s dreams. I wake up every morning and lay back in my bed for the next 30 or so minutes, reflecting on the dreams I had, and end up drawing inspiration from them. I really really look forward to going to bed so I wake up with a new idea in my head” – Subomi
“Inspiration can come from anywhere. Sometimes it pops up when I’m taking a walk, having a discussion with a bus conductor, looking at the sky and reflecting, anywhere. Most importantly, I watch a lot of YouTube videos, tutorials and stuff like that.” – Dare
“For me, it’s playing video games, listening to music. You know, creativity cannot be forced, it comes when you least expect it. Sometimes when I’m working on a project and get stuck, I just go relax and play video games. While in the middle of the gaming, that light bulb might just pop up and I quickly drop the game and run back to my work and kill it.” – Prince
“I draw inspiration from reading, not just books, but everything I can lay my hands on. Fun articles, boring long reads, silly social media posts, anything readable. I also like to pick people’s brains. I’m very much a listener and I like being around people I can learn a thing or two from.” – Bibi
“For me it’s music. All kinds of music, from Fuji to hip hop, hardcore rap, rock, any music. It fuels my creativity. Music is food for the soul and the brain as well for me.” – Elvis
“When I’m stuck, I like to go away for a few minutes to clear my head. I also like to eat, preferably something sweet or I take a stroll, watch music videos, funny skits, just something that is completely removed from the situation so I can look at things from a different perspective.” – Kelechi
“I’m inspired by a lot of different things. It could be walking, staring at the ocean (because I like going to the beach), it could be a lot of things. I take stuff like whiskey to stimulate my creativity sometimes, other times a woman might be my muse.” – Stanley
