The End! Apple Shuts Down Topsy.com

Social media analytics site, topsy.com which was quite popular with digital marketers has been shut down by the almighty Apple. This happened just a few hours ago, as Topsy itself bid farewell on Twitter.

Apple acquired Topsy about 2 years ago for a reported $200 million. Since then, there have been rumours that the site might be shut down, as many expected that Apple was going to adapt the Topsy technology for its Siri, app store search and maybe Apple Music properties.

This prognosis was further confirmed when paying users of Topsy who tried renewing their accounts were declined. One can assume there are no longer any paying users today and thus, it is a good time to close shop and focus on Apple services.

It’s not all doom and gloom though, as Keyhole, Buffer, Tweetreach, Sumall, amongst others still provide some free analytics for Twitter and other social platforms.
