YouTube’s latest policy and its users

Google owned, YouTube has been under attack by its users lately for being too hard on small and upcoming content creators on its platform.

The social media platform recently announced a policy that all “YouTubers” with less than 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of overall view time in the past year will no longer be able to earn money through their channels.

This new YouTube Partner Program is meant to ensure companies have safer places to advertise their products.

Google stated that the company would better monitor spam, abuse flags and community strikes. This means that folks may have the opportunity to feel comfortable watching any channels.

But “Vloggers” with small numbers are quite upset this time and have allegedly accused the social media company of censoring videos which they feel inhibits their freedom of expression.

Recently one of these users allegedly took her grievances to YouTube headquarters. Nasim Najafi Aghdam was upset that her videos were being hidden by the company and she felt she was being discriminated on. We talked about the whole story here.

Big creators have complained as well! The PewDiePie controversy got a lot of users suspicious of the social media platform. PewDiePie whose real name is Felix Kjellberg and has over 61 million subscribers said he noticed a slight drop in his stats on the platform.

The YouTube shooting may have attracted some sympathy but we feel the company could try to do something to woe its users asap.
