Popular American actress (and singer), Vanessa Williams won the Miss America title in 1984 – making history by becoming the first black woman to win Miss America. 21 year old Vanessa Williams, during her reign as Miss America, received death threats and hate mails, and was later involved in a nude photo scandal, which caused her to step down from her Miss America throne.
Photographer, Thomas Chiapel had taken nude pictures of Vanessa Williams when she worked as a receptionist at a modelling agency in 1982. Chiapel sold the pictures to Bob Guccione’s Penthouse Magazine without informing Vanessa Williams. See the photos here.
