This Man Is Proof That Cocaine Can Land You In A Wheelchair

While some of us were saying our prayers in church and tendering our wishes for the New Year in 2014, 28 year old Carl Ayres was trying out cocaine at a local pub in Farnborough, Hampshire.

Five days later, he went into a coma for four days.

When he gained consciousness he was diagnosed with locked-in syndrome, a situation where the body and facial muscles are paralyzed but the person is conscious and able to move their eyes.

Today, Carl Ayres can only move his hands and legs but he can’t talk, roll out of bed or wipe his own bum.

Here’s a little explanation on how cocaine works in the body.

It’s been a year now and Carl’s mum thinks he’ll never get back to normal.

We hope otherwise.
