World leaders, influencers, PR practitioners, and public figures will today, November 22, 2024, come together to call for the positive change and peaceful world as part of the Global Day of Influence 2024 celebration this year.
Global Day of Influence 2024 aims to inspire collective leadership by bringing together world leaders, influence, PR practitioners, and public figures. According to founders, the day is a call to foster innovative discussions and collaborative problem-solving to address pressing global challenges.
This year’s celebration marks a pivotal moment in leadership discourse, emphasising the role of leaders at every level—whether emerging or established—in shaping solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, inequality, social justice, and economic resilience. Global Day of Influence, celebrated annually on November 22, is a significant event that honours the legacy of public relations pioneer Edward Bernays.
Over 165,273 political violence events were recorded worldwide during this period, marking a 15% increase from the previous 12 months (July 2023 to June 2024). In a report by the World Bank, almost 700 million people – 8.5 percent of the global population – live today on less than $2.15 per day, the extreme poverty line for low-income countries. Many world leaders, PR practitioners, notable figures, and influencers have used their influence to call out the injustice, and the rise of poverty happening around the world, and discuss the technological innovation to social entrepreneurship and the empowerment of youth.
By bringing together communicators, influencers, and thought leaders from around the world, Global Day of Influence fosters a global dialogue on pressing issues. It encourages participants to engage in meaningful discussions, share innovative ideas, and collaborate on solutions to complex problems. The day aims to emphasise the importance of ethical communication, promoting transparency, honesty, and fairness in all forms of public discourse.
Global Day of Influence aims to inspire the next generation of communicators to use their skills and influence for positive change. By celebrating the power of communication and promoting ethical practices, this annual event plays a vital role in shaping a better future for all.
This day is important for every nation to explore strategies to tackle issues such as climate change, inequality, social justice, and economic disparity, fostering a global dialogue on the importance of ethical leadership and social responsibility.
Ayeni Adekunle, GDI Convener, articulates the importance of GDI stating, “In the reverberations of conflict, individuals often employ their influence for personal gain, yet as PR professionals, our calling carries the mantle of peace. Amid the tumult in Gaza and the shadows cast over Ukraine, and Sundan in Africa, communicators shoulder a profound responsibility. The Global Day of Influence is crafted to forge opportunities, facilitating mutual education to wield our narratives not merely as instruments of change, but as voices imbued with significance.”
“It is time to use communication as a bridge across the fault lines of discord, cultivating unity and fostering a collective commitment to a future liberated from the chains of violence. In the echoes of our messages, there is a need to drown out the drums of war and pave a path toward a world resonating with peace.”
GDI serves as a reminder of our collective power to shape the world, urging us to leverage our influence for positive change. By fostering unity and promoting innovation, and collective collaboration, we can create a more connected world of good leadership.
