The original idea behind the invention of social media apps was to create a friendly platform where people could reconnect with old friends and also make new friends. It was supposed to be all good.
Fast forward to today and it looks like everyone’s forgotten the real purpose of it. There are more trolls on social media platforms than people that actually want to socialize and make friends.
Just recently, Ed Sheeran had to quit Twitter due to the numerous hateful comments he was receiving. Narrating to The Sun, he said “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things… The head-f*** for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”
In the past, other celebrities and public figures have temporarily quit the app because of similar reasons. Some like Tonto Dikeh and others have sometimes fought back, while majority just ignore them.
What is the best way to deal with online trolls?
Do it the Ed Sheeran way, flee and never be bothered by them again? Ignore them completely like most celebrities do? Or would you fight them back, which unfortunately will drag you almost to their level of low. (Unless you’re Chrissy Teigen who handles trolls like a real pro).
