Oladayo Olufowose – Video Producer With A Flair For Motion Graphics and Animation

Growing up in a house that saw its fair share of actors walk its halls, and getting exposed to the art of video production from a young age, it comes as no surprise that Oladayo Olufowose has picked up the camera as his means of expression.

Dayo works in ID Africa as the lead Creative Video Producer. He has been behind the camera, recording, editing, and creating since he was just in secondary school. Speaking on how his journey started, he shares, “When I was younger, our house at Ipaja was used to shoot movies. I remember Owoblow…”

Oladayo’s earliest memory of creating videos was when he was in secondary school, He says, ‘I did a music video for my friend. I used my dad’s camcorder… After making the video, I went on Youtube and poured effect on the video. That was how I learnt about Adobe after effect.’

A graduate of Computer Science from Babcock University, Olufowose has always been interested in animation, motion graphics and cinematography. Sharing why he chose that particular course of study, he says, “It was the shortest path in Nigeria to learning computer graphics and animation”. His course of study eventually proved useful in the development of his passion and interest, ‘I could crack codes and software whenever I needed to. I was doing it for myself at first, then I started doing it for others.’ He was able to apply both his formal education in computer science, with his natural affinity for motion graphics and animation,

Dayo, like a lot of other creatives, is self-taught. With the aid of online tools and classes, he has fine-tuned his skills, fueled by curiosity and passion, learning all that he needed to learn on the job and on the way. DX, as he is fondly called by some colleagues, is not just a video director, he is involved in the whole production process, having an almost eagle-eye vision of all the elements that will make a video truly a work of art.

The video producer’s influences include Director X, Childish Gambino and others, speaking on why he admires Director X, he shares, ‘Watching videos of Missy Elliot, Eminem, Mariah Carey when we were younger, he used to burst our head in the way he tells stories.’

About Childish Gambino, he says  ‘I admire his creative mind, he is multitalented’.

Dayo has spent six months in ID Africa and has worked on over 50 videos. He has worked for brands like Multichoice, Coca-cola, MTN and others.

Projecting to the future, the video producer shares some of his plans, “We don’t have enough visual influences in Nigeria, I want to be able to share knowledge…. Shed more light on a more creative way to make videos”

One of the most poignant statements for Dayo is ‘When you share knowledge, you gain more’. He says, ‘it has a way of coming back to you’. Though Dayo has not undergone any formal training for video production, he has plans to get certified in the near future.
