Nobody Asked, But Here’s What I’ll be Up to this Long Easter Weekend

By Damilola Lawal

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but this Easter break is about to be the best thing that’s happened to me all year. Four whole days — Friday to Monday — of (hopefully) no emails, no meetings, and definitely no “quick calls that won’t take time.” I’ve already mentally exited all work group chats and switched into full-on long weekend mode.

I’ve even gone ahead to map out exactly how I plan to make the most of the break, and fingers crossed, nothing comes along to ruin my perfectly crafted Easter weekend plans.

Operation: Recharge (a.k.a. Sleep):

Lately, I’ve been running purely on vibes and under-eye bags. Sleep? I don’t even know her anymore. But this weekend, I plan to sleep like my life depends on it — because, honestly, it kind of does. Times like this make me wish humans came with sleep power banks, something to store all the extra rest during free times and tap into during the weekday madness. If such a thing existed, best believe I’d be charging mine to 100% this weekend.

Unfortunately, Work Still Dey:

As much as I’d love to be a rich Lagos babe that lounges all weekend, reality is knocking. The grind doesn’t stop, and even though it’s a public holiday, my laptop has other plans. I’ll be using the quiet time to catch up on some backlog and tie up loose ends.

Maintenance:

I can’t enter Q2 of the year looking like what I’ve been through. So, a full self-care session needs to be done. Hair, nails, everything glam needs to be done. I’ll also be doing that deep cleaning I’ve been dodging for weeks with the excuse of “abeg, I’m working.” My space and my spirit need to feel brand new.

Movie Nights:

Since the COVID lockdown, my family has turned into the movie night Avengers. Any small gathering, and we’re watching something together. This Easter, we’re definitely going to be entertained with Showmax titles. Definitely putting Kabiyesi on for my parents, my dad loves anything historical or cultural, so I’m sure he’ll be hooked. Also, The Forge has to be seen. I can already hear the mini sermon from my mum about the moral lessons — and I’m ready for it. Popcorn and Showmax, that’s all I need.

Friends & Free Therapy:

Finally, I plan to hang out with my friends — my personal escape room from adulthood. Just vibes, good food, loud laughter, and piled-up gist. It’s the kind of hangout that makes you forget all your worries, and I look forward to that.

So, that’s the plan. If you need me, I’ll be somewhere between a nap and a Nollywood binge. Happy Easter break!
