Google released its top 2015 search charts from Nigeria in 11 categories recently. See them below.

Events

Nigerians were distraught when Xenophobic attacks became a serious issue in South Africa sometime in April/May 2015. Considering the fact that a good number of Nigerians reside in SA, those at home were concerned about the wellbeing of their family and friends.

People

The controversy surrounding Muna Obiekwe’s death came as a shocker to most Nigerians. The popular Nollywood actor, known to act the most daring roles, died of cancer in February this year.

Artistes

Olamide was undoubtedly the most consistent artiste in terms of releases this year. Even MTV’s #BaseNaijaHottestArtistes2015 named him the No. 1 artiste. Not only is his recently released album Eyan Mayweather considered a success, artistes signed under his label are making waves too.

Health Related Searches

A number of popular Nigerian celebs like Muna Obiekwe and Allison Madueke-Diezani were diagnosed with cancer this year. Also, events like the “Big War Against Cancer were held this year to create awareness about cancer and how it can be suppressed.

Olamide didn’t get one hit on the chart, he got 3!

Adele came in at fourth place with Hello, which caused millions all over the world to make covers.

Let’s not forget how Ojuelegba became twice the hit it was after Drake and Skepta did a ‘freestyle’ remix.

Football Clubs

Arsenal FC is said to have the one largest fan bases in the world and of course, it’s got a big base in Nigeria. The club was named the seventh most valuable association football club, valued at $1.3 billion, in 2015

Movies/Series

While Furious 7 and 50 Shades of Grey top the charts we are thankful that the AY’s Nollywood hit and first attempt at movie making made it into the chart. Let’s not forget the overhyped season 2 of Empire that crashed our hopes. It even made it to number 3.
