Two Saturdays ago, the whole country stood still as people eagerly and patriotically, decided the country’s next president.
What should have been a one-day exercise ended up spanning the whole weekend, just so every one could get a chance to exercise their right. And though the Nigerian citizenry seem to have won and exhibited their strength as a people, guess what, It was a total waste of time for some people.
Although none of those who voted set out to waste their time, it turns out that due to totally avoidable mistakes, a lot of votes were declared invalid – 844,519 in all, according to statistics compiled by ID Africa.
A lot of these invalid votes were due to wrong or improper thumb printing.
So as we prepare to choose leaders for the states on Saturday April 11th, it’s important to ensure that we don’t throw our votes down the drain…literally.
