Giant social media platform, Facebook is making a move to make it impossible to share intimate photos of other people thought to have been uploaded without their permission.
The measure, which is part of the platform’s ongoing effort to help build a safe community on and off Facebook will affect Facebook, Messenger and Instagram but not WhatsApp.
“Revenge porn” refers to the sharing of sexually explicit images on the internet, especially of women, without their consent. Victims, in most cases, usually suffer terrible psychological distress. The practice is more common with scorned ex lovers.

In an article, the company pointed out that “if someone tries to share the image after it’s been reported and removed, we will alert them that it violates our policies and that we have stopped their attempt to share it.”
Photo-matching technologies will then be used to help thwart further attempts to re-share the images. They have also said they will be partnering with safety organizations to offer resources and support to the victims of these horrible revenge attempts.
