Being an endorser of a brand is a great way to get ahead in the modelling business and an opportunity for exposure to better and bigger businesses. When Renee Somerfield signed up to model for Protein World to drive publicity for its meal replacement weight loss aids, she figured she was doing humanity some good by encouraging them to stay in shape. Unfortunately, that’s not what people are saying all over London. They hate her and the ad.
The ad boldly asks “are you beach body ready?” Here’s how people replied:

The responses emanate from the London community interpreting the ad as an insult to the size of the average citizen, hence making girls that do not look exactly like the model in the poster feel inadequate. They feel Protein World ad encourages vulnerable girls to become anorexic or become overly worried about how their body looks in public. To them, skinny isn’t healthy, hence, their reaction.
Feminists and body image campaigners have severely attacked Protein World and its model. As a matter of fact, 44,00 angry people have signed an online petition for the posters to be removed immediately! Guardian reports that thousands of people angered by the advert for Protein World weight-loss products will protest in Hyde Park on Saturday.
Renee had better not be anywhere near Hyde Park over the weekend.
