Androgyny is the combination of masculine and feminine characteristics – sexual ambiguity may be found in fashion, gender identity, sexual identity, or sexual lifestyle.
Fashion in some regions have begun adopting a term called gender blur – a gradual erase of gender divide lines. According to Inc, the ‘style’ first appeared this year on runways of topshot designers such as Rick Owens and Alessandro Michele of Gucci. Evening Standard’s article titled Milan Men’s Fashion Week: Gucci acknowledges androgyny as women join menswear runway describes Gucci’s runway in details.

We have seen artistes and fashion muses Rihanna and Lady Gaga in androgynous photoshoots.

It is often said that most of today’s trends emanated from the past (1940s – 1990s). Famous figures like David Bowie, Michael Jackson, and Prince were known to adopt androgynous styles.

Since many western ideologies have successfully penetrated into the high-handed Nigerian culture, ‘gender-neutral’ fashion might become dominant in Nigeria in a couple of years. A few Nigerian celebs such as Denrele Edun, Weird MC, Charly Boy, DJ Lambo have been known to take on the fashion of the opposite sex; also, we have come across tens of ‘tomboys’ and ‘lip-gloss loving’ men.

Androgyny came in earlier than we thought.

Direction things are moving now Nigerians won’t anyother choice than to accept and let them be, and have doing research about androgyous people, being androgynous doesn’t make their sexuality gay.
In years back till now the number of androgynous i had seen has increase rapidly here in Nigeria we call them tomboy and jerrygirl and some had find way into nigeria top spot e.g Teniola.
We just have respect their impresion and let them live their life.
