Connect & Engage. A Blog Isn’t For Decoration!

You might have noticed that a number of websites these days have ‘blog’ as a key category on the menu bar, and social media users do not fail to insert the word ‘blogger’ to their bios like it is some sort of honorary title . You have probably wandered into some of their blogs and found that they either lack any beneficial content, they are empty or they just copy and paste posts from prominent and active blogs.

As if that’s not tacky enough, some have absolutely no clue of what blogging is about! How does one spend (so much) money on a website and not understand its workings? SMH.

Blogs are not decorations. Blogger is not a fancy name for showing how hip you are. It’s a way to generate interest topics for your target audience – that is people you want to notice all your actions online. Blogging is simply about providing newsworthy, interesting and relevant information for these people. Information here, which is also referred to as content, is a vital ingredient meant to be used for keeping your audience in sync with your brand message.

The reason why many are on the internet is to stay up-to-date with information and to connect with friends. If you are a complete stranger to your audience, it makes it even harder to get through to them. Blogging is a way that can help you connect with them, not scare them away – it is not meant for “come and buy” purposes or “see me here” motives.

What do you think your people would like? Are they career-oriented? Try out educational and inspirational subjects. Do they love to party? Then keep them on your blog with gossip from the hottest parties in town. Are they housewives who are all about their kids? Cooking recipes and do-it-yourself instructional subjects might just win their hearts.

It’s all about who you want to notice.
