This year’s Met Gala, which was themed Rei Kawakubo/Comme de Garçon: Art of the In-Between, saw many celebrities arrive in really outrageous styles ( a bit understandable considering that the Japanese designer, de Garçon is known for her quirky designs). While some chose to ignore the theme, others were very obedient, choosing some of the designer’s weirdest patterns. Some others did not dress according to the theme, but still managed to shock anyway. Take a look at some of the most interesting that caught our eyes.
1. Rihanna
The bad gal has never been afraid to dare on the red carpet, and we can confidently say for sure this time that she attended the event with the intention of being the talk of the night. She sure did get her wish alright as people couldn’t stop staring at her oddly patterned Comme de Garçon dress that made her resemble a mango tree. Her face looked like she’d been bathed in a bowl of bright pink blush, while her interesting hairstyle and sandals added for an even more dramatic effect.
2. Katy Perry
We’re not even sure where to start describing Katy Perry’s weirdly confusing all-red outfit, but we do know that she would certainly win worst-dressed of the night without any competition (unless you count the other 7 listed here). Take a look at the outfit and judge for yourself.
3. Solange Knowles
We can’t really tell what exactly her after-party plans were, but we know for a fact that Solange would certainly never drown in that dress if she’d chosen to go swimming in the deepest ocean, as it’d have kept her well afloat. Her shoes on the other hand, looked more fit for a ski contest than a red carpet event, but hey, what do we know? All we’re certain of is that she looked very out of place – maybe not so much considering how many other bizarrely-dressed people there were in attendance.
4. Tracee Ellis Ross
The gorgeous actress was dressed in a blue ill-coloured carton for a dress. That’s all we can come up with.
5. Madonna
Let’s just say we didn’t expect that much from Madonna. To be honest, we kinda thought she’d be far worse, but the matching net which she dragged along was the straw that broke the Camel’s back.
6. Helen Lasichanh
The beautiful wife of Pharrel Williams didn’t look so comfortable in her…(jumpsuit?) that looked more like something designed for one of the Teletubbies. Her poor arms were tucked inside the getup, while her shoes, which kinda looked like farming boots were too unappealing to be looked at twice.
7. Jaden Smith
The young actor would have looked dashing in his all-black ensemble but for his decision to attend the event clutching onto his recently-shaved dreads as some sort of hand accessories.
8. P.Diddy
P.Diddy sure does loves his jackets. He had two of them on, and they both sported the same garish pattern that hurt to look at.
To be honest, there were many more cringe-worthy styles, but we’ll just stop here for today.
