Last year, Facebook introduced a series of reaction buttons, but users were a bit disappointed when ‘dislike’ was noticeably missing. However, the social media platform has decided to give them what they want (well, maybe not exactly) as it is currently testing a ‘dislike’ button, albeit for the Facebook messenger app only.

According to TechCrunch, the upcoming feature would allow users to add reaction emojis next to text in conversations, making it easier to reply lengthy heated messages. This can be done by clicking on a button next to text, which would bring up a series of reactions – the already existing six reaction buttons plus the new addition.
Facebook had long held off on providing the much-requested dislike button as they saw it as a way of injecting negativity into the feed, instead choosing to create a series of reaction buttons to let users express themselves according to how they felt, leaving the dislike for the comment section. They consider this new addition more as a ‘no’ button than dislike.

The feature however is not yet available to every user, but is currently being tested among a small group, to see how well it works out.
This addition might not be exactly what ardent Facebook users wanted – as it’s only available to Facebook messenger – but it comes very close to being great news so we daresay it’s cause to rejoice.
