BHM, is celebrating Alex Okosi, Managing Director, Google, on receiving the Special Recognition Awards at the 17th Headies, held on Sunday, April 27, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.
The Special Recognition award honours Okosi’s long-standing contribution to Africa’s creative and digital ecosystem, recognising his transformative leadership across media, tech and innovation. Okosi has remained a key player in shaping Africa’s media and tech landscape, from launching MTV Base Africa to leading major initiatives at YouTube and now Google
Other recipients of the award include the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Amaju Pinnick.

Okosi currently serves as Google’s Managing Director for Africa, leading initiatives that are helping to reshape the continent’s future, championing responsible AI to enhance healthcare, promoting digital tools in agriculture to combat food insecurity, and supporting startups and Small Media Businesses to innovate and thrive. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to inclusive innovation and digital equity.
Before joining Google, Okosi made a lasting mark as Managing Director for YouTube’s Emerging Markets in EMEA, where he launched influential programs like the $100M Black Voices Fund and the Africa Day Benefit Concert, empowering creators and expanding visibility for African talent.
