Beware of the Danger That Comes With Dating App, Tinder

For those who do not get opportunities to meet new people and mingle in the real world, dating apps like Tinder have made life easier. All it takes to make a new friend is to swipe right and the possibilities – from strong friendships to marriage – are endless. However, there are certain dangers attached to this easy friend making, blind dating application that not many people are talking about.

The Next Web reports that 2013 figures show that 55 crimes including rape, grooming and sexual exploitation of children were linked to Tinder (and Grindr) were reported in England and Wales. By 2014, these crimes had increased to 204 and further went up to 412 in 2015.

Considering how easy it is to divulge personal contact details to strangers in the name of blind dating, one must take precautions to verify profiles before bringing Tinder conversations into the real world. Although there is no record of criminal reports related to Tinder in Nigeria unlike Facebook, we hope the dating app will be used only for its original purpose.

If not, please report to appropriate authorities.
