Twitter Wants Your Birth Date For More Than One Reason

Twitter is making moves to get your birth date so it can improve ad targeting and decorate your page with balloons on your birthday.

Twitter got the sign up set up wrong from the very beginning. When you are asked to sign up on Twitter, it only requests for your user name and your email address – unlike Facebook that asks for your birth date, sex, and other important demographics. Missing out these statistics has caused Twitter to fall behind in the age of ad targeting.
However, Twitter hopes to get your birth date and compensate you with its animated balloons just like the one on Kevin Hart’s page.

So in case you find this balloon on your page, don’t be scared about filling in your birth date. People have caught the birthday sharing bug on Twitter anyway (you find pasting their birthdays as their usernames – looks funny by the way), so entering birth dates shouldn’t be an issue.
