Solange Knowles & The Natural Hair Movement – Tips & Tricks

Quite frankly, Solange Knowles Ferguson hasn’t hit jackpot since she got into the music industry compared to her sister, Beyonce Knowles Carter. Instead, Solange has gained more ground and notice in the fashion and natural hair industry.

Unlike most natural hair advocates, Solange Knowles Ferguson didn’t cut her hair to join the trend neither did she do it to become more popular. According to Daily Mail, she claimed that cutting her hair (tresses) was a sign of liberation – ‘I felt like when I took my weave out, I wasn’t pretty, I wasn’t noticeable,’ she said.

After Solange received heavy criticism about how “unkempt and dry” her hair was in 2012, it seemed like she had to do something about those comments.

Fast forward to 2014, Solange, after breaking ties with natural beauty company, Carol’s Daughter, shared some of her natural hair secrets with Essence:

  • Use raw Shea Butter daily for moisturizing
  • Pure Argan oil is awesome for really dry hair (and will make you smell like a basket of nuts)
  • Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisturizing Hair Smoothie is one of her favourite moisturizing products
  • Carol’s Daughter Monoi Shampoo and Conditioner helps with softening her hair
  • Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey moisturizes your hair and scalp, smoothes edges and controls frizz
  • Perform a ritual whenever you go to the salon that entails putting oils in your natural hair and sitting under the dryer for an hour and a half.

Thank heavens for digital media, natural hair secrets are no longer secrets.
