The fourth edition of NET Honours, the People’s Choice Awards will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2020. This year, for the first time, the NET Honours presentation will not be done on the NECLive stage in front of thousands of Nigerian entertainment and creative industry professionals, but on Netng’s digital channels –– to an audience of millions around the world.
NET Honours debuted in 2013 as a special recognition award presented to deserving individuals in the Nigerian entertainment industry during the Nigerian Entertainment Conference Live (NECLive) event. In 2016, it evolved to become what it is today – The NET Honours People’s Choice Awards.
NET Honours is a one-of-its-kind platform where we recognize and celebrate some of Nigerians’ favourite celebrities and public figures. The platform recognises people and events that have shaped pop culture in the course of the year in review. The awards are entirely data-driven and are drawn by analysing audience search, engagement, and trends on ID Africa’s network of media channels including platforms like Netng, Neusroom, 234Star, and Orin.
Data for the awards are sourced from a wide database of over eight million users who have engaged with these platforms via the websites, social media accounts, and email newsletters within a 12 months calendar period.
Over 90% of the audience on our media properties –– Netng, Neusroom, 234Star, and Orin –– are Nigerians below the age of 40. This means that NET Honours as a platform provides useful insights into the people, events, and pop culture interests that greatly appeal to Nigeria’s digital natives and entertainment content consumers.
Honourees have traditionally received their awards at the annual NECLive event, which is also organised by ID Africa. However, with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the corresponding restriction on large gatherings, NET Honours will be presented in an entirely virtual ‘event’ this year.
NET Honours ‘Class of 2020’ will feature 20 categories such as Most Popular Actor/Actress, Most Popular Musician, Most Searched Media Personality, Most Popular Foreign Celebrity, and others.
Winners will be announced on Saturday, June 13, 2020 via Netng website –– www.thenet.ng and social media platforms –– @thenetng on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
