#ThrowbackThursday: The First Mobile Phone Call Was Made 42 years Ago

Today makes it 42 years and 13 days since the first mobile phone call was made.

The call was made by 45 year old Martin Cooper, a Motorola engineer, to his rival, Joel Engel at AT&T’s Bell Labs from the streets of New York City to test the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x that he had been working on at that point in time.

Cooper mentioned that passers-by were stunned at the sight of the cordless brick looking phone – there were no cordless phones in 1973.

Mobile phone calls have evolved since Martin Cooper made that call – from the struggle to create a wireless conversation to seamless video and conference calls.
