7 brilliantly stupid ideas the Stupid Hackathon event has produced so far

If you think coming up with stupid stuff is something just anyone can pull off, then you haven’t seen the Stupid Shit No One Needs And Terrible Ideas Hackathon (aka Stupid Hackathon) event. The one-day Hackathon, which debuted in 2013, sees techies come up with ridiculously brilliant ideas that have no value whatsoever, ranging from stupid, very stupid to extremely stupid. See below, some from past editions, including the latest, which held in February.

1. Godotify

The Godotify App is the perfect way to troll friends

Created by software engineers, Anastasis Germanidis and Iain Nash The Godotify app is the perfect way to troll your friends. Whenever you get a message, it immediately sends those three little dots, giving the impression you’re typing an endless reply. The best way to use it? Send your friend a ‘You’re a terrible friend, why did you have to do that?’ kind of message, wait for them to reply, then activate your Godotify app.

The Facebook App is only available on iOS for now.

2. Shakie

From last year’s edition, this incredibly useless App, built by Sam Sadtler is certainly not for the weak as you need to shake your phone vigorously just to take a photo as can be seen in the video above.

3. Holdr

Built by Sam Tarakajian, the Holdr app is probably the most useless on the list. All it does is tell you whether you’re holding your phone or not. See video above.

4. Tweet Your Food

Tweet Your Food

For those who cannot help tweeting photos and comments about their food, this App by Denny George and Matthew Kaney is the perfect way to save yourself the stress of having to do the typing yourself. Simply connect a device to whatever you’re eating and watch your food do your tweeting, bite after bite.

5. Outcognito Mode

Great way to keep everyone updated on your activities

This is a browser extension for Chrome that basically just tweets every site you visit and everything you type. For now, it only shares information via the official Twitter account, @outcognitomode, but creator, Harold Cooper, says in the future it’ll be able to connect to any account of your choice. Pretty cool, yeah? Maybe not.

6. Beer Selfie Stick

Ever wondered what you look like while drinking a beer? This selfie stick is the perfect way to find out as it takes a selfie of you guzzling down your favourite beer. Now who wouldn’t want to have this brilliant invention?

7. AugmentAd Reality

How do you feel about being a walking ad? Well, this idea, created by Aliza Aufrichtig, Vijith Assar and Rich Harris is the perfect way to monetize your life as it lets you walk around with a head-mounted ad delivery device. Pretty cool, yeah?
