Every year on July 18, Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated by billions around the world who dedicate at least 67 minutes of their time to be of service to humanity. This is to mark the 67 years Mandela dedicated to public service as a human rights lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, international peacemaker and first democratically elected president of post-Apartheid South Africa.
Here’s how you can use your Social media account to participate:
1. Dedicate 67 minutes of your time to sharing encouraging posts with your friends
Take today to post, retweet, repost, share all kinds of positive and uplifting posts with your friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. Be the reason why someone has a better day.
2. Leave a kind comment on 67 random people’s photos
For 67 minutes, let there be no trolling, mocking, bullying or slander on your timeline, instead focus on being the one who brings unity and spreads love. Go on the pages of people you don’t follow, leave playful emojis, sweet words, tell them how good they look and any other thing that might make them smile.
3. Do a giveaway on your social accounts
It doesn’t have to be something huge. It could be you offering your service for free, doing free deliveries of your products, etc.
4. Avoid getting into Social media arguments with anyone
No debates today. PDP Vs APC, GEJ Vs PMB, Men are scum or not, Mainland Vs VI, Messi Vs CR7, Man U Vs Arsenal, etc. No, not today. Let it rest. And please, give your haters a break and let them know that their trolling will no longer be indulged with similarly hateful replies, at least not today.
5. Reply those DMs you have ignored for a while
Yes, we know how annoying those random DMs can be, but imagine how glad that person that’s been praying for a reply from you would be when they see a notification and it turns out to be a message from you.
A simple ‘hello, I hope you have the best day today’ might having them raising their shoulders for the rest of the day.
6. Do as many retweets and reposts as you can
Help promote at least 3 people’s businesses online: repost someone’s website, recommend their business, shoutout that startup, etc.
