A list of technologies that may affect the world in 2018 was released by a private research institute, MIT this year. The list featured advanced artificial intelligence, AI that would probably change the lives of Nigerians very soon. We compiled a list of 3 major ones.
- Artificial Intelligence
This is one of the main tools used by big companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft. Very soon AI will be available to more people and Nigerians may be one of them. This means machine learning tools will bring AI through the cloud making it simpler to understand and use. As we speak Amazon and Microsoft have plans to deliver open source libraries to a huge audience as well as consultancy services which will push the AI revolution.
- Complete online privacy
All activity on the internet will finally be really private! In 2016, a digital currency, Zcash allowed it users conduct transactions anonymously. The Zcash developers however have helped with experiments that created a cryptographic tool called “zero-knowledge proof” which also tells the identity of a user without really imputing any information. Which means, future devices would know if a person is 18 years or not when a site is opened. No more questions will be asked.
- Genetic fortune telling
MIT says “one day babies will have DNA report cards at birth”. Well, we believe them. Through technology, studies have shown that the future of a child’s health can be found by studying the genetics of the family members and possible health conditions that may arise over time. This will definitely benefit medicine especially in noticing the high risk of cancer in a person.
