
Femi Kuti was born on June 16, 1962 to the great Fela Anikulapo Kuti and his first wife, Remilekun Kuti (Nee Taylor).
Femi played the saxophone in his father’s band, the Egypt 80 band.

He later started his band in 1988, Femi Kuti and the Positive Force Band, where his sister, Yeni Kuti and his ex-wife were dancers.

Femi Kuti built the New Afrika Shrine located in Ikeja. The popular event centre/club is run by Yeni Kuti.

Femi Kuti is internationally recognized not only for his songs but also for his activism and fight for human rights. He has collaborated with international artistes like Common, Mos Def, Macy Gray, etc.
